Dorcas Young Griffin serves as a Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Shelby County, TN, providing strategic direction and leadership for a variety of county operations. Deputy Chief Young Griffin started her career with Shelby County Government in 2007, serving as a Public Health Coordinator, the Ryan White HIV Program Manager, Deputy Director, and then Director of the Division of Community Services. Previous roles have included work with Shelby County Head Start, the Memphis HOPE VI Project, and Church Health Center. Dorcas has been instrumental in the development and oversight of many innovative programs and projects, including the county’s Youth & Family Resource Center, a pre-arrest prevention and diversion program which connects young people to community supports in lieu of the youth justice system. Deputy Chief Young Griffin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Sociology, the University of Memphis with a Master’s in Public Administration and is currently working toward a PhD in Urban Affairs at the University of Memphis. She and her husband Cleo have two children, Alexis, a graduate student at New York University, and Carter, who is 7.
